Owen update
We met with the neuro-surgeon today at Upstate. She was wonderful, we really liked her a lot. She answered all our questions and was the perfect mix of personal and professional. It was her opinion that Owen have surgery now. She told us that based on our report of his symptoms and his MRI scans, she felt that we could expect to see more symptoms developing in the coming months. We spoke with Owen's primary care physician and she is in the process of doing some research for us for a second opinion. While we realize that surgery is likely, we want to hear from another surgeon to be sure. We also want to make sure that we have the best, most experienced person doing the surgery. This has been a lot of information to process and we are doing our best to stay focused but knowing that surgery is the direction that we are going is difficult to come to terms with. We do not want Owen to have more pain or to develop new symptoms. As of now, Owen can not engage in any contact sports and should not jump up and down. He should be able to resume normal activity after the surgery. After we meet with our 2nd opinion, we should know our next steps, whether surgery happens in Syracuse or somewhere else and when it will be.
