Owen update: Christmas came early!!!!

This morning we went back to Dr Tovar-Spinoza's office for our 6 week follow-up appointment, an appointment that we thought would be to schedule surgery for Owen in January. When we met in October, Owen was having weekly headaches...since then they have dramatically slowed down, to only about 1x/week. After reviewing Owen's chart and symptoms, Dr Tovar-Spinoza told us that she did NOT feel like surgery now was warranted, instead, she wants to see Owen back in 6 months, unless symptoms return!!!! She explained that there is a lot that is unknown about Chiari and that as children grow and change, the Chiari malformation changes too. Unless symptoms are consistent and progressive, there is no reason for surgery. This was the best possible news we could have anticipated today and really truly feel like we got our very own Christmas miracle! Thank you to all of you have kept Owen in your thoughts and prayers. We know that this may just be temporary, but are thrilled that we are not planning a neuro-surgery, at least for now! :)
